sematicon AG is No. 2 in the category Industry 4.0 in the final of the German Startup Cup!

sematicon AG became No. 2 in the category “Industry 4.0” at the final of the German Startup-Cup. The final took place on 14 June 2021 in front of approximately 150 viewers.

The “Industry 4.0” Cup was awarded by GFFT for the first time in the season 20/21. The event series started with the first of four preliminary rounds on 7 December 2020. A total of 16 innovative startups were invited to present themselves. Originally the final was planned to be a live-event at CODE_n in Stuttgart, however, it had to be realised digitally due to current events. The four best startups from the preliminary rounds and the two semi finals moved on to the final.

Startups in the final:

  • sematicon AG , represented by Michael Walser
  • Peakboard GmbH, represented by Nina Berger
  • ai-omatic solutions GmbH, represented by Felix Kraft
  • FORMHAND Automation GmbH, represented by Dr.-Ing. Christian Löchte

During the semi-final we gladly took the opportunity to introduce in the pitch the sematicon AG as well as the audit and remote management software of the next generation se.MIS™ .

In our short pitch we were happy to highlight the advantages of se.MIS™ to industrial businesses. The main focus of attention was on prevention and isolation of production networks as well as on automated documentation and access consolidation to various machine networks.

After the pitches the jury experts took their time to examine closely all the used technology, business plans and founder teams.

The final-jury:

  • Christian Lorenz, Managing Director, CODE_n GmbH
  • Stefan Walter, Senior Vice President Digital Platforms, msg systems ag
  • Jörg Wicik, Head of Digital Innovation & DPP/IC Partner Management, Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft
  • Thomas Luft, VP Eng. Process Management and Systems, Voith Group
The pitches were followed by the expert jury voting. Every jury member was able to vote for up to 3 startups. The startups FORMHAND Automation and sematicon AG qualified for the final round.

After the jury voting, both startups were invited to answer to questions the audience chose. The audience chose the following 3 questions:

  • What is the biggest challenge for your startup in the future?
  • What is new and innovative about your technology?
  • How and when did you come up with the idea to your startup?
In this round the audience and the jury learned even more interesting background information about the startups. The following Live-Voting gave the viewers the chance to vote for the winner of the Industry 4.0-Cup 20/21. While we at sematicon 36 per cent approval, 55 per cent of all votes went to FORMHAND. The winner of the cup was announced!
We would like to thank GFFT for hosting and organising the digital version of the German Startup Cup. A special thanks goes to all our supporters – without you, our success would not have been possible!

About the German Startup Cup

The non-profit association GFFT e.V. organises the German Startup-Cup annually. Innovative technology start-ups that were founded in 2015 or later and whose business focus is based on a new technology can participate. In the pre-selection process, a large number of start-ups (>50) were screened to see if they met the entry requirements. The winners of the respective categories will be determined by public voting.

The competition is intended to contribute to the topic of innovation being given greater importance in Germany and to improve the conditions for the development of future-oriented technologies. In order to draw more attention to the technology startup sector, various aspects of sport such as cup rounds, tables and finals will be transfered to the world of startups.
